The Fernand Lambein Fund was established in 2023 to continue the legacy of Prof Dr Fernand Lambein, whose pioneering work on grasspea (Lathyrus sativus) highlighted the crop’s potential to contribute to sustainable agriculture and food security. Building on his lifelong commitment to scientific research and international collaboration, the Fund supports knowledge exchange, technology transfer, and innovative initiatives that promote sustainable food solutions, strengthen research capacity, and foster partnerships between scientists and institutions across the world.
What’s New Around Lathyrus? is the Fund’s biannual newsletter. Published twice a year, it features interviews with scientists and professionals working in the field of grass pea research. In addition, it highlights the latest scientific publications, reports on recent events and initiatives, and shares news, insights, and interesting discoveries from the global Lathyrus community.
The International Lathyrus Days are the first scientific conferences entirely dedicated to grasspea. Held every two years, these meetings bring together researchers, breeders, agronomists, and stakeholders from around the world who share an interest in this remarkable legume. Beyond presenting the latest scientific advances, the conferences place a strong emphasis on networking, and community building. Ample space is given to early-career researchers, providing them with valuable opportunities to showcase their work, and connect with established experts in the field.
